Taiwan Arrival Card - Frequently Asked Questions

The TWAC is a free digital entry form issued by Taiwan's National Immigration Agency (NIA). It replaced the paper immigration arrival card on October 1, 2025. After completing the form online at twac.immigration.gov.tw, you receive a QR code by email. At immigration, officers scan your passport to automatically retrieve your TWAC data.

Important: It is NOT a visa - it is an entry declaration separate from your visa requirements.

No. The Taiwan Arrival Card is an entry declaration, not a visa. If you are eligible for visa-free entry to Taiwan, you only need the TWAC. If your nationality requires a visa, you must obtain a Taiwan visa separately AND complete the TWAC - both are required.

Nearly all non-resident foreign travelers entering Taiwan must complete the TWAC. This includes:

• Foreign nationals entering on a visitor visa or visa-exemption
• Hong Kong and Macau residents with a multiple-entry permit
• Mainland Chinese nationals with a multiple-entry tourist permit
• Taiwanese nationals without household registration or Resident Certificate

Exempt: Taiwanese citizens with full household registration and valid ARC holders.

Yes. The TWAC is completely free at the official portal twac.immigration.gov.tw. Some third-party websites charge fees to complete the same form - this is entirely unnecessary. Always use the official NIA portal.

Most travelers complete the TWAC in 5–10 minutes when they have their passport, flight details and accommodation address ready. The QR code is issued immediately upon submission - there is no waiting period.

You can submit the TWAC up to 7 days before your arrival in Taiwan. This was extended from 3 days in June 2026. We recommend completing the form 24–48 hours before your departure flight. The form is editable anytime before arrival if your details change.

Yes. The TWAC is fully editable anytime before your arrival in Taiwan. Common reasons to edit include flight changes, accommodation changes or correcting errors. Log back into the TWAC portal at twac.immigration.gov.tw with your email and submission reference to make changes.

Your QR code is sent to the email address you provided during submission, immediately after you click Submit. There is no waiting period. Save the QR code offline by screenshotting it or downloading it - do not rely on airport Wi-Fi.

Check your spam or junk mail folder first. If still not found, return to twac.immigration.gov.tw and log in to retrieve your submission. You can request the QR code to be resent to your email from within the portal.

No. The TWAC is valid for a single entry only. Each separate trip to Taiwan requires a new TWAC submission. Even if you travel to Taiwan frequently, you must complete a new form for every arrival.

Your permitted stay is determined by your nationality and the immigration officer - not by the TWAC itself. Most visa-free travelers receive 90 days. Singapore, Malaysia and Mexico nationals receive 30 days. Brunei, Philippines and Thailand nationals receive 30 days under the trial visa-free program.

If you need more time, apply for a stay extension at the National Immigration Agency before your permitted stay expires.

Yes. One person can submit the TWAC for up to 16 travelers in a single submission. Each traveler receives their own individual QR code. You will need each person's:

• Full name (as in passport)
• Passport number and expiry date
• Email address
• Travel details

Children including infants must each have their own TWAC entry.

Yes. Every traveler including infants must have their own TWAC submission. A parent or guardian can submit for up to 16 travelers in one session, and each child receives their own individual QR code. All children must also have their own valid passport.

The TWAC is required at all Taiwan international airports and seaports:

• Taoyuan International Airport (TPE)
• Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH)
• Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA)
• Taichung Airport (RMQ)
• Keelung Port (cruise arrivals)
• Kaohsiung Port (cruise arrivals)

Some airlines will deny boarding if you cannot show a valid TWAC QR code. If you arrive at Taiwan without a completed TWAC, self-service kiosks are available at Taoyuan (TPE) and Kaohsiung (KHH) airports, and free Wi-Fi is available. However, completing the form at the airport causes significant delays.

Strongly recommended: complete the TWAC at least 24 hours before your flight.

The TWAC is available in 7 languages: English, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese and Indonesian. You can select your preferred language at the start of the form at twac.immigration.gov.tw.

Yes. The TWAC portal at twac.immigration.gov.tw is mobile-friendly and works on smartphones and tablets. You can also upload a photo of your passport's data page to auto-fill your details on mobile.

When you start the TWAC form, you have the option to upload a photo of your passport's data page. The system then auto-fills your name, passport number, nationality and expiry date from the photo. This is optional - you can also enter all details manually.

You can log back into the TWAC portal and edit your submission anytime before arrival. Update your flight number, accommodation details or any other changed information. Make sure the final details match your actual travel documents.

Yes. If your nationality requires a Taiwan visitor visa, you must obtain the visa from a Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) before travel AND complete the TWAC. Both are required. Having a visa does not exempt you from the TWAC.

Yes. E-visa holders (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan) must also complete the TWAC. The e-visa and the TWAC are separate requirements.

Yes. Travelers benefiting from the third-country visa provision (30-day visa-free entry using a valid visa from USA, UK, Canada, EU Schengen, Japan, South Korea, Australia or New Zealand) must still complete the TWAC. The TWAC is required for all non-resident travelers regardless of entry method.
